The Cilcain Mountain Race which is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday as part of the Cilcain Show. Due to Covid pandemic the Show in 2020 has been cancelled but we are aiming to still run the Mountain Race albeit following local and national Covid guidance throughout.
At present we are looking at time trialling the event with runners set off at suitable time intervals, with all gates held open, and names called out at the top & finish.
Due to Covid restrictions, entries will be online only to minimise contact at registration. No race numbers, trophy presentation and all runners are asked to follow current Covid guidance both before, during and after the race. Anyone displaying symptoms of Coronavirus should not turn up for the event. They should immediately self-isolate (as well as their household), follow the Welsh Government’s self-isolation guidelines, and apply for a Coronavirus test.
There are no childrens races planned this year. Competant over 12’s can enter the main race. Competant under 12’s can run in the main race if accompanied by a parent or guardian with the ROs permission – my suggestion is Over 10 and prior fell/track running experience.
Parking: We have secured parking in a field next to the start finish. Follow the signage & marshals instructions and approach from the main village (left at the church) and exit via Pentre as shown on the map above to prevent traffic issues.
Route: The proposed 2020 route is approx 5km and 340m height gain/loss. Start times from 12 noon.
Summit protocol: Run clockwise around the TRIG POINT not tower and call out name to summit marshal.
Finish protocol: Call name to finish marshal. Get your breathe back. Then head home – don’t loiter thanks 😉
