The Cilcain Mountain Race which is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday as part of the Cilcain Show. Due to Covid pandemic the Show in 2021 is cancelled but we are still running the Mountain Race following local and national Covid guidance throughout.
The Mountain Race, as it is locally known, was first run in 1960. It has run every year since 1973 (except in 2001 when the show was cancelled due to the Foot & Mouth outbreak). It is a traditional village show fell race, basically one from the showground field to the highest local peak and back.
After the Covid Timetrial version in 2020, the race this year returns back to the normal format of Church start & finish and the loop route – up the zig-zags and down the north spur.
The race starts 1pm with registration from 11.30am-12.30pm in the churchyard. Registrations online only at this time. Minimum age 15 on 31st December 2021. Entry over-18 £5, under-18 £2 – online or cash drop on day. (Under-16 £1)
Junior races will form part of the main race setting off from Waterworks to avoid first section of road. Categories U15 (5k 250m), U13 (3k 100m) – Under 11 can run with parent/guardian by prior agreement with RO.
