Here you can find out some more details of the Cilcain Mountain Race which is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday as part of the Cilcain Show.
The Mountain Race, as it is locally known, was first run in 1960. It has run every year since 1973 (except in 2001 when the show was cancelled due to the Foot & Mouth outbreak). It is a traditional village show fell race, basically one from the showground field to the highest local peak and back.
The race starts 1pm with registration from 11am-12.30pm in the churchyard. Registrations on the day only. Over 16s. Entry £5 – also allows free entry to showground (show race bib).
The current route is approx 7.5km and 400m height gain/loss.
Junior fell races also take place for all ages categories U8 (over 6 unless running with parent), U10, U12, U14 & U16. Over 16 can run the main fell race. Entry to junior races is free.
